Join Canary Media’s Jeff St. John as he moderates a debate between energy experts Severin Borenstein and Ahmad Faruqui about California’s solar net-metering policy. The issue has sparked a polarizing fight among clean energy advocates, with high stakes for the future of solar power in the most populous state in the nation.

The controversy surrounds the California Public Utilities Commission’s recent proposed decision that would make it much less financially attractive for homeowners to install solar systems. Many solar advocates and climate and environmental justice activists are outraged, claiming the changes would decimate the rooftop solar industry, make it harder for lower-income and disadvantaged communities to reap the benefits of solar power, and set back the transition to clean energy. But the state's big investor-owned utilities, as well as some consumer watchdogs and community and environmental groups, contend that significant reform is needed to ensure that the public at large isn’t subsidizing solar for wealthy Californians.

In this live one-hour discussion, St. John will walk through the most controversial aspects of the issue with Borenstein and Faruqui, and find the places where they agree. Join us to get up to speed on the hottest topic in clean energy.
